Restriction Maps and Logic Puzzles

Announcements:
  • Tomorrow you will have an open-book partner quiz on DNA technology.  When you come in to class you will be in new seats with a new partner.  This is the only person you are allowed to work with on the quiz.
  • The vacation assignment on diversity of life is due on Monday.  I expect to see an honest representation of your own understanding of the material.  Any misrepresentation will be reported as violation of the academic honesty policy.
Today we completed the restriction map from the data given on the worksheet entitled, "Restriction Maps and Logic Puzzles."  We went over the process of developing the restriction map together.  This was followed by an assessment of understanding using the 2007 AP Biology Free Response #4.  Students were given the rubric to check their own work and I used this as an opportunity to discuss best approaches to free response questions on the AP Bio exam.

In some classes I began a discussion of how DNA is sequenced.  More information on this process can be found in Chapter 20.  Hopefully we can return to the topic and perform the activity in class on Monday.
