Our focus today was on gel electrophoresis.
I asked students to draw a picture of a gel, label the + and - ends and then to plot the locations of DNA bands of given sizes. We discussed the role of a DNA ruler to use for comparison when determining the sizes of unknown fragments. Once pictures of the DNA bands were completed we discussed some of the applications of gel electrophoresis.
Next students began working in groups ont the worksheet entitled "Restriction Maps and Logic Puzzles." Using the data given on a gel students are asked to create a restriction map of three enzymes.
HW: Complete the Vacation diversity unit assignment for Monday. THIS MUST BE COMPLETED IN YOUR OWN WORDS! COPYING OTHER STUDENTS OR THE TEXTBOOK ARE CONSIDERED VIOLATIONS OF THE ACADEMIC HONESTY POLICY.
